The Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Directorate in Al-Hasakah estimated the governorate’s production of wheat crop for the current agricultural season at about 300,000 tons, and barley at 40,000 tons, from the harvestable areas.
In a statement to SANA correspondent, the director of Al-Hasakah Agriculture, Engineer Rajab Al-Salama, stated that the production estimates are preliminary and are only for irrigated areas, which amount to 125 thousand hectares of wheat and 20 thousand hectares of barley, and it is expected that the harvest operations will start in the coming period.
Al-Salama pointed out that the areas planted with rain, most of them went out of production and are not subject to harvest, as they were given to livestock breeders to graze them due to the harsh climatic conditions during the growth of plants and the lack of rainfall in general in most areas of agricultural stability, where the area of rain that came out of production reached 428 thousand Hectares of barley and 389 thousand hectares of wheat.
