The district and municipality of Altenstadt have shown staying power when relocating the through-town in Schwabniederhofen.

It took 40 years to buy all the required land.

The project should finally be tackled in 2022.

Schwabniederhofen - The decision of the district committee last Monday had a historical character: The final recommendation to the district council to expand district road 6 in Schwabniederhofen and relocate it on a section was 40 years in coming.

One can confidently assume that the district councils will give the green light for the one million euro investment in July.

The municipality of Altenstadt has to pay for the sidewalk and the laying of the supply lines under the new street section.

The costs for this have not yet been determined.

The first draft plan dates from 1972

Mayor Andreas Kögl is very relieved that the first draft plan from 1972 will now, in all likelihood, finally be implemented.

In the past few years, the municipality and the district have succeeded in buying the required land bit by bit, he reported on request.

In the future, a direct connection between Oberdorfstrasse and Burgstrasse will be established via these areas.

The bottleneck with two tight bends through which almost 1,300 vehicles torment their way every day will be history.

“There are buses and trucks driving there, and there is no sidewalk,” says Kögl, once again emphasizing the urgency of the new road.

Planning approval failed in 1988 due to resistance from residents

The district and Kögl's predecessor in the town hall had broken their teeth for decades when it came to the relocation.

In 1988 the government of Upper Bavaria initiated a planning approval procedure for the new section of the route.

After "strong resistance from the residents" this was then stopped again in 1997, reported the building department of the district office on Monday.

Mayor does not expect any major protests this time

The planned road has been part of the demand and investment program of the Weilheim-Schongau district for twelve years.

And the mayor does not expect any major protests from residents this time.

Rather, he sees advantages for some residents because their properties can be developed thanks to the new road.

If it could start in spring 2022, "that would be awesome"

The town hall chief cannot yet give an exact schedule for the implementation of the work.

But he hopes that the planning will be completed in 2021, says Kögl.

If the execution started in the spring of 2022, "that would be awesome".

It shouldn't fail because of money, Altenstadt has enough reserves

However, the town hall does not believe that the construction of the six-meter-wide street could fail due to possible high costs for the community.

His predecessor Albert Hadersbeck had "managed very, very well and left decent reserves," says successor Kögl happily.

On top of that, the community can count on subsidies.

According to the district authority, the relocation of the through-town as part of the village renewal is eligible for funding.

"Racetrack" should be avoided

Kögl would like to sensitize the planners to one topic now.

“I don't want to have a racetrack, that has to be solved in terms of planning,” he emphasizes with a view to the future route, which then runs almost dead straight through Schwabniederhofen.
