The Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Talal Al-Barazi, Public Works and Housing, Eng. Suhail Abdel-Latif, briefed the engineer on the work stages of the grain silo in the port of Tartous, which was exposed to fire last year.

In a statement to reporters from the work site, Minister Abd al-Latif pointed to the continuation of work and the endeavor to overcome all obstacles in coordination with the relevant authorities to complete maintenance work within the timetable or less.

In his turn, Eng. Hassan Suleiman, Director of the Branch of the Grain Corporation in Tartous, explained in a statement to SANA that the maintenance and rehabilitation work in the silo is carried out by the General Company for Construction and Development based on a study presented by the General Company for Studies and it was audited by specialists at Tishreen University.

The Governor of Tartous, Attorney Safwan Abu Saada, the Secretary of the Tartous Branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Dr. Muhammad Hussein, and the Police Commander, Brigadier General Musa Al-Jasem, participated in the tour.

In addition, Minister Barazi was briefed on the reality of work in the automated sand bakery, the adjacent vegetable market, the first Tartous hall of the Syrian Trade, and the first Ramadan charity market in the old Tartous hall.

During a meeting between the Minister of Internal Trade and merchants in the governorate building, Al-Barazi listened to the demands of the merchants, which focused on the need to liberalize prices while setting the necessary controls and pursuing the source of the product with regard to the label placed on it and not the merchant or the owner of the store and the need to explain all the details of the application of Legislative Decree No. Consumer.

Minister Al-Barazi clarified that the decree provided for the ration observer’s penalty, which ranges from 3 to 6 months imprisonment, or the same penalty that falls on the violating merchant in the event of collusion with the merchant, extortion, or the wrong informative report, indicating that severe penalties fall on grave breaches.

In turn, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mazen Hammad stressed the need for cooperation to hold accountable violators to overcome the conditions of war and siege, hoping to hold awareness seminars for traders to explain the details and provisions of the decree to remove any confusion in this regard.

In addition, the Minister of Public Works and Housing and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, held a meeting with representatives of the implementing, study and supervising authorities of the construction project of Tartous University after a field tour of the university’s general site.

Minister Ibrahim affirmed the ministry’s keenness to complete the building of the university as quickly as possible and to communicate with the concerned authorities to overcome obstacles and proceed with work as quickly as possible.

For his part, Minister Abdel-Latif stated that a final solution will be drawn up for the concrete mix file with optimal conditions in terms of structural resistance, which puts work on the rapid implementation track after a long delay.

The Secretary of the Tartous branch of the party stressed the need to overcome the problems that had long negatively affected the project, especially the problem of late correspondence, which was greatly affected by the pace of work.

University Secretary Dr. Zakaria Al-Zallaq provided general information about the two projects and the implementation rates in them after calculating the price differences.

Representatives of the companies studying, executing and supervising the set of problems that have slowed down work in recent months, especially the lack of fuel needed for transportation, and the lack of a better construction mix, also presented.
