US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday in Kiev reaffirmed Washington's support for Ukraine, which has been in the throes of a war with pro-Russian separatists for seven years and after a recent upsurge in tensions with Russia.

I am here for a very simple reason, that of reaffirming with force, on behalf of President (Joe) Biden (...) our commitment to the sovereignty of Ukraine, its territorial integrity and its independence
", he said, during the first visit of a senior official in the new US administration since taking office in January.
