Britain announced sending two warships to the port of the island of Jersey, amid a dispute with France over fishing rights, as more than a hundred French fishing boats prepare to sail to the island today.
The BBC quoted British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as saying that "any blockade will be totally unjustified," considering that sending warships "is a precaution."
The "HMS Severn" is currently heading towards the waters off the port of St. Helier in Jersey, and the "HMS Tamar" is due to follow later after a threat from France to cut off electricity to Jersey due to the new rules for French fishing boats in the post-Brexit period. European Union.
The new fishing rules introduced by the Jersey government under the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between Britain and the European Union require French boats to prove that they have a history of fishing in the waters of Jersey, but the French authorities said that the European Union had not been informed of the new technical measures for fishing off the Channel Islands, making them null and void.
French fishermen, in turn, complained that they were prevented from working in British waters due to difficulties in obtaining licenses.
