The Examination of History for the Diploma of Secondary School Examination opened today (6th). The HKEAA stated that there were about 5,200 candidates applying for the exam this year, and two of them took the exam at the Penny's Bay Quarantine Center.

After the turmoil of the History DQ test question last year, the entire test paper this year did not ask about Sino-Japanese relations or Hong Kong political issues.

A history teacher bluntly said that Sino-Japanese relations are a small part, and it is not surprising that it did not appear this year, but Hong Kong politics is one of the important topics in the curriculum. The "absence" in the two examination papers is more special: "Understand the whole era from multiple angles." It’s important... If you don’t know about the development and evolution of politics, everyone is striving for tightness, and there are difficulties in restricting it, how will society go down in the future?"

He described this year’s examination papers as shallow and easy to achieve high scores, "regressing to the questioning method 20 or 30 years ago." For example, some of the information in the first paper is common, and some long questions lack high-level thinking requirements; at least two in the second paper. The test questions are similar to the previous ones, and some of the questions can get high marks by familiarizing with history, and the requirements for review and thinking are greatly reduced.

He worries about the "reverse effect", and in the future the history subject will be reduced to the "endorsement" subject.

The overall history examination papers are relatively shallow

Director of the Education Association and history teacher Zhang Xiang said that this year, regardless of the level of paper 1 or paper 2, the level of paper 1 or paper 2 is relatively shallow. The choice of paper 1 or 4 allows candidates to avoid difficult, thinking and commenting questions, which is unfair to candidates with higher ability. , "Candidates may show no ability to comment."

For example, he pointed out that the long question on the Hong Kong economy (sub-question C) is a new question type. Some students may refuse to answer because they are not familiar with it.

The question requires candidates to write out two pieces of information. It is the first time that the relevant question type has appeared in the history of the HKDSE: "Junior school practice, teaching or previous public exams have appeared, but there is no such thing as the HKDSE. Focus on data, and then propose limitations. It's so simple." He thinks that the first question can quote how the Hong Kong newspapers commented on the movies at that time, instead of the content of the history book.

There are two economic problems in the four articles of Volume One, which are rare in the past.

Zhang Wang also pointed out that the four historical data in Volume I have balanced and different topics, but two of them are related to the economy, and the situation is rare. "The two questions are about the economy is very rare. The economics department of Hong Kong and Chinese history are not the center of gravity or the main line." Paper 1 asks about a significant reduction in long topics for comment or controversy. In particular, the two economic issues of China and Hong Kong have greatly reduced the requirements for high-level thinking. It is not sure whether the HKEAA considers that the preparation of candidates under the epidemic is particularly relevant.

More than one piece of information in the first paper is often not in accordance with the principles of public examination and evaluation

He believes that one or more information in the entire paper is too simple and the situation is not ideal. Some of the information is common in the course and does not follow the principles of public examination and evaluation.

For example, Article 2 of Volume 1, provides photos of the listing ceremony of Tianjin enterprises in the 1950s and the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 1991. He bluntly stated that the pictures are not meaningful and can be replaced by text; while the information on Articles 3 and 4 is in the course Common: "Usually unfamiliar materials are used to test high and low...Article 4 H comics are common in the Cuban missile crisis. Candidates may have seen it in school, and they have not found it necessary to adapt or understand."

Paper 2 has test questions that are similar to previous questions and no comments are required

As for the volume two essay questions, the same as in previous years, it is selected two from seven.

Zhang Xiang bluntly said that in principle, the difficulty should be the same, but there are differences in the difficulty of the topics in this year's volume two, at least two topics (question 2 assessing the significance of the Revolution of 1911 and the May Fourth Movement, similar to the first year's diploma examination questions; question 3 Japanese militarism, Similar to the 2015 examination questions), the similar questioning method has appeared in the previous examination questions of the HKDSE. "Paper 2 is rarely asked to be simple, because it is a high-level paper, which may waste students' preparation efforts."

For some of the questions, candidates are not required to comment, and even the questioning method is almost equal to the words of the syllabus. "Analysis means answering the questions as soon as they come back. It is against the original intention of history education." He gave an example, Volume 2 Question 5 (North) The Atlantic Treaty and the European Community’s influence on the historical development of Europe in the second half of the 20th century only involves memorization, no personal views or comparisons are required. It is a low-level requirement, and it is easy to get a high score by memorizing historical facts.

Director of the Education Association and history teacher Zhang Xiang bluntly stated that students should also learn about political events when they study history: "If you don’t know about the development and evolution of politics, and everyone fights for it, there are difficulties in restricting it, so you know how society will decline in the future. The extinct teacher of Hong Kong politics: not ideal

Hong Kong political questions disappeared in this exam.

Zhang Xiang, director of the Education Association and a history teacher, pointed out that in general, the Examination and Appraisal Bureau is to balance different issues and categories. If the first paper asks about politics, the second paper asks about society, economy and culture in order to balance it out. “Neither volume touches Hong Kong. The political department is not ideal."

He explained that because students need time to master political affairs, which is not as easy to understand as economics, culture or society, many teachers will spend time guiding students to analyze and explore, and think from multiple angles. "It is important to understand the times from multiple angles... if not Knowing the development and evolution of politics, everyone is striving for tightness, and there are difficulties in restricting it, how will society go down in the future?"

After the turmoil in the DQ questions for History in 2020, the entire history of the 2021 Diploma Examination Paper did not ask about Sino-Japanese relations or Hong Kong political issues.

Zhang Xiang revealed that it is known that many teachers who used to participate in the test questions were not invited to submit the test questions after the turmoil. This year's test paper level and test model are different from previous years, which raises questions about whether there are "laymen" who changed the test questions.

The teacher is worried that the history subject will become an "endorsement" subject in the future

Zhang Xiang said that the history of junior high school has implemented a new curriculum in the past two years. The reform concept is to get rid of rote memorization. He wanted to make more use of and discuss it, but he did not expect that the high school history test questions "regressed to 20 or 30 years ago." , Worries or the "reverse effect" due to public examinations, the history subject will be reduced to an "endorsement" subject in the future, and the frontline can only "do everything": "I don't want students to learn historical facts, and I want them to have critical thinking and play In the past, I didn’t ask a straightforward or superficial question.”
