In summer, a small private pool in the garden is very popular.

Maybe not necessarily for swimming, but for a cool down in between, a pool is the ideal solution.

Having a professional pool set up in the garden probably costs a few thousand euros.

Basins sunk into the ground are complex and expensive to build.

Nothing works here without earthworks.

Correct planning requires know-how and a lot of time.

So-called above ground pools can be set up within an afternoon.

These are placed on a level surface or the lawn.

Of course, these models can be sunk almost completely or partially in the garden.

As a rule, above-ground pools do not require any official approval.

To be able to swim in your own pool, it should be at least six meters long and 2.50 meters wide.

With suitable aids, such as a swim belt, you can also have fun swimming in smaller pools.

So that the bottom membrane is not damaged or the pool tips over, the surface should be a straight piece of lawn. The subsurface can also be prepared with a poured concrete slab, a thin layer of quartz sand or poured sand. A weed fleece protects the film from stones and twigs. Floor protection mats, pool mats and Styrodur or paving slabs available from specialist retailers are also suitable.

A pool pump is essential.

It cleans the water and completely circulates it.

A pump is often included in the all-inclusive price of an above-ground pool.

A distinction is made between sand and cartridge filter systems.

The performance of sand filter systems is higher and cleaning is higher thanks to the built-in backwash function.

No water connection is required for both systems, as it is a closed circuit.

The pumps are weatherproof.

It also makes sense to purchase a filter system with a timer.

Certain chemicals should be used to prevent germs, bacteria and algae from multiplying.

Chlorine is important to disinfect water.

The optimal pH should be between 7.0 and 7.4.

For chlorine, a value between 0.5 and 1.0 milligrams is recommended.

At a

Chlorine intolerance can be used as an alternative to active oxygen or so-called salt electrolysis systems.

Self-assembling round pools

Round pools with an inflated air ring are very popular.

These can be set up quickly by themselves when filling with water.

These pools are available with a height of 50 centimeters and a diameter of less than two meters.

The water depth is usually more than a meter.

However, due to the lack of a solid framework, these pools are not particularly stable.

Ring pools should be completely horizontal, otherwise the side wall of large pools may no longer be able to withstand the water pressure.

With a total price between 30 and 400 euros, the pools are inexpensive.

Frame pools

So-called frame pools are set up comparatively quickly, are very stable and inexpensive.

They are available in quite impressive sizes, in which you can swim without any problems.

Frame pools consist of a sturdy plastic tarpaulin and a metal frame.

These basins are stabilized on all sides by supports made of metal and stand independently.

The assembly should be done in a maximum of two hours.

Frame pools are available in rectangular, oval and round.

The prices (including accessories) range from around 300 to 1,500 euros.

Steel wall pools

Steel wall pools usually remain set up all year round due to the great effort required to dismantle them.

The pools consist of a PVC foil lining on the inside and a galvanized steel wall.

These pools are often buried almost completely or partially in the ground.

The Allesbeste testers recommend a solid base plate.

For smaller pools, however, a level, solid surface is sufficient.

There are square and round models.

They are significantly more durable than frame and ring pools.

Some manufacturers promise a shelf life of up to 30 years for high-quality steel wall pools.

For large, high-quality pools with steel walls, you have to pay a four-digit amount.

Simple models are inexpensive from around 200 euros.

Wooden pools

Wooden pools can be sunk or set up freely.

They are more expensive than plastic models with an inflatable ring or steel frame.

They require more maintenance and are available in oval, square and round.

The construction is time-consuming: If you don't buy a complete set, you have to reckon with a considerable amount of planning effort.

Wood is optically of high quality and fits harmoniously into most gardens.

As a rule, a four-digit purchase price has to be turned down for a wooden pool.

Paddling pool

As an alternative to the pool types mentioned, the classic paddling pools must also be mentioned.

However, these models are not suitable for swimming.
