The government attributes the violence seen these days to the "threat of vandalism" from a criminal organization that "hides behind legitimate social aspirations, to destabilize society, generate terror among citizens and distract the actions of the public force", as President Iván Duque said this Wednesday when speaking to the nation.

The director of the Police, General Jorge Luis Vargas, said Tuesday that the instruction "is to confront criminality and respect human rights."

Defense Minister Diego Molano had said on Tuesday that the authorities act with "strict adherence to the law" and that in their training they take into account the principles of human rights.

At that time, he pointed out that 29 disciplinary investigations were opened.

Duque decided this Sunday to withdraw the tax reform project, an initiative that the now former Minister of Finance Alberto Carrasquilla had filed for processing in Congress on April 15.

A decision that comes after massive marches and demonstrations in rejection of this proposal, which began on April 28.

The government announced a dialogue with the National Unemployment Committee for May 10.
