Moscow-Sana

Russia announced the official approval of a single-dose (Sputnik Light) vaccine against the Corona virus, noting that it is very similar to the first dose of (Sputnik V), but it is not a substitute for it as it is intended to achieve other goals.

The Russian Ministry of Health and the Russian Gamalia Center for Microbiology that developed the vaccine and the Russian Fund for Direct Investments confirmed that the Sputnik Light vaccine successfully passed the registration procedures, although the (Sputnik V) vaccine, which is vaccinated with two doses, will remain an essential drug in the Russian vaccination campaign against Corona.

The Ministry of Health indicated that the new vaccine was developed on the basis of the adenovirus type 26, confirming that Sputnik Light established the immune response in all volunteers who participated in its testing.

The ministry stated that (Sputnik V) constitutes the strongest immunity in people, but Sputnik Light may be used to quickly create social immunity in inappropriate epidemic conditions.

In turn, the Direct Investment Fund pointed out that the effectiveness of Sputnik Lite according to the results of clinical tests reaches 79.4%, which exceeds the index of effectiveness of many vaccines that are vaccinated with two doses, indicating that no serious side effects have been detected following vaccination with it.

The Executive Director of the Direct Investment Fund, Igor Dmitriev, confirmed that there are plans to export Sputnik Lite to other countries, which will allow speeding up vaccination campaigns, adding that the price of the new vaccine is less than ten dollars, while its specifications ensure that it is easy to store and transport.

The head of the Gamalia Center, Alexander Ginsburg, announced that Sputnik Lite is a good tool for the initial vaccination and re-vaccination in addition to the possibility of combining it with other vaccines in order to increase the effectiveness of the vaccination.

The third phase of Sputnik Lite's clinical tests is taking place with the participation of more than seven thousand volunteers in Russia and other countries, including the UAE, and it is expected to release its preliminary results this May.

In a related context, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed Moscow's readiness to support a proposal to lift intellectual property protection for coronavirus vaccines so that they could be used all over the world.

"The ideas circulating in Europe to completely lift the intellectual protection for coronavirus vaccines are worthy of attention," Putin said during a video call with the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Tatiana Golikova, stressing that they are in line with the World Trade Organization rules that allow such action to be taken in emergency situations.

Putin added, "Russia will support such an approach, bearing in mind that in the current circumstances we must think not about how to reap the maximum profit, but about ensuring the safety of people."

Putin pointed out that the Russian vaccines are the most reliable and safe so far, and they are simple to use. “One European expert said that Russian vaccines are reliable and reliable, such as a Kalashnikov automatic rifle ... We were not the ones who said that and I think he is definitely right. Venice".

Putin noted that Russia is the only country in the world so far that provides vaccine production technologies to other countries.

And US President Joe Biden announced that he intends to support the proposal of the World Trade Organization to lift intellectual property protection rights for vaccines against Corona virus, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed that the European Union is ready to discuss the proposal to lift intellectual property protection for Corona vaccines in order to accelerate production and distribution.
