The Chinese Red Cross Society has installed special automatic pacemakers in public places all over the country with the aim of saving lives in the event of sudden heart attacks.

"More than 11,000 pacemakers have been installed in public places," Xinhua news agency quoted Vice President of the authority Sun Choping as saying at a press conference today, pointing out that these devices were used in 67 cases and the sick person was rescued in 53 cases.

Choping added that the installation of these devices will effectively increase the rates of saving people who have stopped heart function in public places, pointing to the need to improve the ability of the public to use the device in emergency situations.

The authority promoted the use of an integrated program that includes a pacemaker, along with first aid kits, video instructions on how to use, and special places for training people in charge of using the device.
