Fabio Beinhofer is not an experienced long-distance cyclist.

He doesn't speak Italian either.

Nevertheless, the 32-year-old wants to go to Rome by bike.

Because he wants to collect donations for a school in South Africa on the way - a project of a Turkfield Association.

The adventure starts this Friday, May 7th.

Türkenfeld -

The will to change the world and an irrepressible thirst for adventure - these are Fabio Beinhofer's greatest passions, according to his own statement.

That is why in 2014 he and friends from Türkenfeld founded the association “For a better 2morrow”.

The group supports the Hope Valley Farm School in rural South Africa, which is mainly attended by children of poor farm workers.

The 32-year-old, who works as a product and project manager for a financial service provider in Munich, worked as a volunteer at this school for a year.

In Türkenfeld, his association organized, among other things, charity football matches and Christmas carols to collect donations for the school.

Since the people in the area suffered particularly from the corona crisis last year and can barely scrape together the school fees for their children, a bigger campaign should now be launched. Beinhofer quickly dismissed the original plan of “only” cycling across the Alps as not challenging enough. He wanted to push himself even more. Why not complete the 1000 kilometers and cycle to the Italian capital? Beinhofer wants to do it in just four weeks.

His friends in Türkenfeld are enthusiastic, but they are also a little nervous when they think about how their “Fabi” should get through the tour.

"He's not unsportsmanlike, but he was barely able to train," says Bianca Epp, vice-chairwoman of the club.

Because first the bike had to be brought into shape in the workshop - and that took time “because a mini part was not available at first”.

While he waited, Beinhofer did yoga at home - to strengthen himself.

He will document his tour on Instagram and Facebook.

So all supporters and interested parties can be there live.

The adventure will be even more unpredictable due to Corona and the pandemic-related restrictions.

In order to always have a place to sleep, Beinhofer wants to take a tent with him.

This Friday, May 7th, he will leave Munich.

Bianca Epp and Martina Heitzer, who are also on the board of the association, want to accompany him on the first stage to the Ammersee.

The two start on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Türkenfeld town hall.

"We want to give him good wishes and a care package," says Bianca Epp.

There is a reason for the ambitious donation target of 11,000 euros: “With it you can pay the salaries of all teachers at the school for three months,” explains the 31-year-old.

That would be a great relief for the parents.

In this way, more than 100 children could continue to have fair access to education.

"We firmly believe that Fabio can at least come close to this amount."

As of Thursday, 1.30 p.m., 40 percent of the targeted amount had already been collected.
