After the appointment of party leader Annalena Baerbock as candidate for chancellor, the Greens are registering increasing attacks on the Internet.

"Both Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck have been attacked online for a long time," said party spokeswoman Nicola Kabel to the editorial network in Germany (Friday editions).

But now a new intensity has been reached.

Since Baerbock's election as candidate for chancellor, fake quotes and fake pictures have increased significantly.

"It started in the first few days," she added.

In the last two weeks alone, the party headquarters have made 15 reports under the Network Enforcement Act, the spokeswoman told the newspapers.

"If things appear to be criminally relevant, we bring them to the attention," says Kabel.

"Not everything automatically has a misogynist component, but in some cases it comes on top," said the spokeswoman.

Most recently, among other things, alleged nude pictures of Baerbock appeared, but in truth they do not show them, but a Russian model.

The Greens chairman recently got personal protection.

The women's political spokeswoman for the Greens parliamentary group, Ulle Schauws, told the editorial network: "The fact that a woman is candidate for chancellor in the Greens and is therefore being attacked shows a certain helplessness of those who attack her." .

It speaks against the polluters rather than harming Baerbock.

Baerbock has been her party's candidate since April

The 40-year-old has been the first candidate of her party for the Chancellery since April 19.

The party leader had agreed on this with her co-chairman Habeck.

However, the change is so far only provisional - it still has to be confirmed at the party congress in mid-June.

However, the approval is considered certain.

For three and a half years, Habeck and Baerbock have been two leaders among the Greens.

The top candidacy had been an open question between them.

Habeck had long been the favorite to run for chancellor.

The decision in favor of Baerbock also poses certain challenges for the political rival parties, which could be dependent on the Greens.
