Former Kwun Tong District Councillor and Democratic Party Hung Chunxuan was accused of discrediting opponents in canvassing leaflets during the district board elections last year. He was ruled earlier that he was improperly elected and was disqualified as a district councilor.

Hung subsequently appealed to the Court of Final Appeal through crowdfunding, but the crowdfunding amount was not satisfactory and decided to withdraw the appeal application.

Hong Junxuan stated on Facebook today (7th) that he will formally lose his seat as a district council member from the 4th of this month, and all the proceeds from the earlier crowdfunding will be used to pay legal costs.

And expressed with emotion that in the past 5 years of political and community work, I am grateful to all my comrades-in-arms, colleagues, and friends in the neighborhood. The support and encouragement of everyone will be remembered in my heart.

Hong Junxuan said with emotion that his past experiences in life are closely linked to Hong Kong, and he feels honored to be the "last group of representatives" in Hong Kong. I would like to thank the 4,203 Cuiping neighbours for their trust.

Hong believes that the worst case is that his seats will be vacant until the next election. He is worried that no district councillor will serve the neighborhood in the next two and a half years. He apologizes for failing to complete the four-year promise made to the neighborhood that day.

Hong Junxuan pointed out that no matter what happens in the next two and a half years, he will not give up community work, and will continue to bear unfinished responsibilities. It is hoped that everyone will not be worried and distressed in the future.

Hung encouraged the public to "losing seats does not mean losing people's hearts. Some beliefs are that the regime cannot be shaken." He called on the incumbent members to continue to uphold, "the way that should be kept is maintained, and the way that must be practiced continues to be cultivated."

Hong Junxuan filed an appeal after he was ruled improperly elected. The crowdfunding target was 1 million yuan to cover legal costs, but in the end only about 150,000 yuan was raised. In addition, many members of the Democratic Party also faced legal proceedings. The situation is difficult to support. After consulting legal opinions, it is deemed that there is little chance of winning the case, so the appeal is abandoned.
