The Nuremberg police discovered an illegal puppy transport in March.

A court should now decide how to proceed with the dogs.

Nuremberg / Ansbach - In March, the Nuremberg police discovered an illegal puppy transport *. The 101 animals were found in a truck with a Hungarian license plate. Apparently they were supposed to be transported on to Belgium for sale. Since the documents on the dogs were forged - and the puppies were actually too young for international transport - the animals were brought to the Nuremberg animal shelter. There they had to be quarantined against rabies because they had not yet received a vaccination.

One of the baby dogs * died in April.

The rest, as the

reported, is doing well under the circumstances.

The director of the animal shelter Tanja Schnabel explained about their condition: "They still suffer from intestinal parasites, some dogs still have to be operated on." The Hungarian dealer and the Belgian buyer will now take over the regulatory office.

The animal shelter had already tried to mediate the baby dogs *, but the legal basis is still unclear at the moment.

Nuremberg: court decides in urgent proceedings: dogs remain in rabies quarantine

That is why the case is now at the Ansbach Administrative Court, about 45 kilometers to the west. The Nuremberg * Ordnungsamtsleiter Robert Pollack is eagerly following the hearing: "We are very excited to see how the court sees it," he says. However, it is also clear to him that a quick result is not to be expected: “The legal matter is very complicated,” he admits.

Now the Hungarian breeder had filed a complaint with the court against the quarantine of the dogs this week.

In an urgent procedure last Thursday (May 6), the Ansbach Administrative Court decided, according to a court spokeswoman, that the puppies must remain in quarantine.

How things will go on with the dogs afterwards has to be clarified in the main proceedings.

After the quarantine, according to the court spokeswoman, it is quite possible that the animals will have to be returned to their owner.

Nuremberg: criminal police continue to investigate possible violations of animal welfare

Until the main proceedings and the final decision, who has to pay for it and what will happen to the puppies, it still takes time.

And at the moment, according to the criminal police, the investigation into possible violations of animal welfare is still in full swing.

So far, only the violation due to the lack of rabies vaccination can be proven to the owner.

Smuggled puppies * and kittens are discovered again and again in the Free State.

According to the state animal protection association, the authorities encountered around 400 animals in 2021 alone.

Animal rights activists see one reason in the increased demand for pets as a result of the corona pandemic *.

Illegal sources are also often used.
