Update from May 7th, 9.30 a.m.:

The corona situation in Germany seems to be gradually easing.

The vaccination rate in Germany continues to pick up speed.

More than 30 percent of the population have now received at least one primary vaccination.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) and RKI President Lothar Wieler will speak in a federal press conference from 10 a.m. about the current Corona situation in Germany.

Corona vaccinations with the preparation from Astrazeneca will also be possible for everyone in the future if those willing to vaccinate decide with their doctor.

The Federal Minister of Health announced that the prioritization for this vaccine will be completely lifted.

"That means that when vaccinating in the doctor's office, the doctors decide who is to vaccinate and when," says Spahn.

At the same time, the number of infections continues to decrease.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 18,485 new corona infections and 284 new deaths on Friday.

The nationwide 7-day incidence was accordingly 125.7.

For comparison: on Thursday the RKI reported an incidence value of 129.1, on Friday a week ago it was 153.4.

Spahn and Wieler on the current Corona situation: Infection numbers give hope

First report from May 6th:

Berlin - Can Germany slowly breathe easy again after weeks and months of renouncing the third corona wave? Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) and the President of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) Prof. Dr. Lothar Wieler on Friday around 10 a.m. at the Federal Press Conference in Berlin. At least one thing is certain that the corona statistics reported this week give hope for a light at the end of the tunnel.

The 7-day incidence * in Germany fell continuously from day to day and fell below the threshold of 130 on Thursday. At the district level, more and more districts have passed the critical threshold of 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days in the past few days which the federal emergency brake allows easing.

The number of reproductions * reported by the RKI on a daily basis leveled off well below the critical value of 1.0 over the course of the week, which is an indicator of a subsiding infection process.

Another milestone was also achieved in Germany last week with regard to vaccination.
