The solidarity test
Today the Federal Council will decide that
those
who have been
vaccinated and those who have recovered should be less restricted
. As early as the weekend, they should then meet without any conditions or visit their hairdresser without a test certificate. That seems perfectly logical to me. But it seems to be different for many. Because a majority of Germans are at least against an immediate lifting of the freedom restrictions for vaccinated people.
According to ARD-Deutschlandtrend,
40 percent
think it is
fundamentally wrong
for people who are fully vaccinated against Corona to be
exempted from contact restrictions and curfews
.
Anyone who seriously questions this exemption (also guaranteed by the constitution) should seriously ask himself whether he has an
exaggerated tendency to
resentment.

Ultimately, the whole pandemic is
a test of solidarity
.
Of course, out of consideration for the elderly and vulnerable, the younger ones had to do without a lot in the past year - even if Corona posed an extremely low risk for them.
Why shouldn't this solidarity be continued consistently now?
Why should older people, who, from a purely statistical point of view, no longer have as many opportunities to do so as younger people, should not be allowed to do what makes their life sweeter?
The withdrawal of the restrictions on freedom could also provide an additional incentive to get vaccinated.
Perhaps it motivates one or the other maverick to think straight ahead again.
Those willing to vaccinate who have not yet been vaccinated will soon be dependent on this form of solidarity.
Because only if enough citizens take part will the ghost soon come to an end for everyone.

Release the patents!

The fact that the
US government has
now promised
to support the
release of vaccine patents against Covid-19
is a revolutionary step.
It should be noted that America is only making this demand at a time when it has secured enough doses for all of its own citizens.
And to this day prevented the export of vaccines made in the USA and even their individual components.
The question of patent release has long been debated in the
World Trade Organization
.
The US vote could change the mood.
The EU is now also sending moderate signals.
I think it would be the right step despite some question marks.
The rich, vaccine-rich countries are about to return to normal.
There is already talk of
additional booster syringes for vaccinated people from 2022
and in the years after.
In the poor countries with little vaccine, however, according to the current status, the corona horror will remain until 2023 or 2024.
A deep rift runs through the world.
This division is not only extremely unjust, but also extremely dangerous for everyone: as long as the virus can continue to spread, it will produce new variants that could again doom the world, including the vaccinated.
The pharmaceutical companies point out that they can only conduct long-term research if they
are allowed to
profitably market
the
fruits of this research
.
Depriving them of this right would be counterproductive to their investments and medical advances.
That is an important point.
But it does not have to stand in the way of the approval of the patents.
For one thing, it should not be forgotten that much of this research was supported by the state.
On the other hand, the manufacturing companies could like to be paid princely for their patents.
So that it was still worth it for her.

In the shadow of Trump's wall
US Vice President
Kamala Harris
has an
appointment
today with Mexico’s President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador
, at least via video.
There is a lot to be cleared up.
In relation to no other country, the elected President
Donald Trump
has broken more china than in dealing with Mexico.
It started with his first job application when he said of Mexicans, “They bring drugs.
They bring crime.
You're rapists. ”And continued with his campaign hit, according to which he
wanted to build
a
wall between the United States and Mexico
, for which Mexico would allegedly pay.

When Trump abdicated, only parts of a reinforced protective fence were finished, not a complete wall - funded by the United States defense budget.
The situation on the border has
not improved in any
way since
Joe Biden took
office
.
On the contrary.
The number of migrants from Central America has recently increased significantly, also because Biden slightly relaxed the brutal and heartless immigration policy of his predecessor.
Unaccompanied minors are no longer sent back at the border.
Their number has increased massively in the past few weeks.
"I'm giving you a tough job,"
Biden said when he recently entrusted his deputy Harris with immigration resolution.
That was anything but an exaggeration.
How it will be possible
to limit
the number of migrants without
Trump's inhumane deterrent policy
is questionable.
Harris wants to intensify action against the triggers of the refugee movement, against
poverty and crime in the migrants' home countries
.
This approach will also cost the US a lot of money.
But this way it would be more sensible to invest than to build a wall.

Winner of the day ...
... is
well-being
. I don't know whether you even knew, and certainly not whether you took an active part, but: Yesterday was the international
"Anti-Diet Day"
, which, you guessed it, was directed
against the widespread diet and slimming
mania. It was invented almost 30 years ago by
Mary Evans Young
, a feminist writer from Great Britain who suffered from anorexia herself.
Everyone should just feel good yesterday with themselves, their figure, their eating habits.
So the initiators.
And at the same time think a little about the negative consequences that chasing after a slim ideal of beauty can bring with it.
Everyone, according to the creed, should accept himself as he is.
By the way, yesterday I treated myself to a Frutti di Mare pizza.
And now comes the best news: The anti-diet day is now extended to a whole week.
At least.
Maybe not entirely officially.
But between us.
Enjoy your meal!
