In the old building in attendance, after moving to the new building again in alternating lessons: This is how it could be for the children at the Rottach-Egern elementary and middle school.

To the parents' annoyance.

Rottach-Egern

- In a letter, the headmaster Ulrich Throner informed the parents about the further processes. Core statement: According to the new regulation of the Ministry of Culture, the first to fourth grades could be fully taught in school again from Monday, May 10, as long as the 7-day incidence in the Miesbach district remains below 165. From June 7th, however, a significantly lower limit will apply: 50. The reason: The rooms in the new school building are smaller, so the necessary distances can no longer be fully observed.

For many parents, this news is “bitter gossip”, reports Josef Wolfgang Bogner, father of two primary school children in Rottach-Egern.

With the start of face-to-face classes, there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

It is all the more bitter when the situation in the new building even worsens.

"That is absolutely incomprehensible", criticizes Bogner and speaks of another mistake in a whole series of "planning deficiencies".

As reported, there was already resentment about the lack of wash basins and ventilation systems in the classrooms.

The fact that, in the worst case, you have to stay in alternating lessons all summer because of too small rooms is "brutal", complains Bogner.

Rector rejects accusation of bad planning

When asked by our newspaper, Rector Throner admits that he, too, is not happy about the situation.

"For us, changing lessons means a lot of effort." However, it was not a planning error, he emphasizes.

The fact is that the funding guidelines for new school buildings only provide for a certain classroom size.

“We in Rottach-Egern built a little more generously with 70 square meters”, explains Throner.

Areas of up to 90 square meters, as is the case in old buildings, are no longer feasible these days.

Mayor Christian Köck, who is also chairman of the Tegernseer Tal school association, is annoyed by the criticism.

“We built the thing according to the standard,” he says.

Rottach-Egern got a modern school for almost ten million euros.

The fact that some parents keep raising the mood against it hits Köck very much.

"I have the feeling that some have lost their grip on the ground."

Mobile ventilation devices for some classrooms

The fact is that the new building was planned long before the outbreak of the pandemic.

In order to nevertheless react to the new requirements caused by Corona, mobile ventilation devices have been procured for all the (few) rooms in which adequate window ventilation is not possible.

On top of that, the new room concept would not only secure the two-movement option in the long term, but also enable new learning landscapes.

Köck says: "I can say with a clear conscience that we have done everything for the well-being of our children."
