The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization in Britain today recommended adults under the age of 40 to receive an anti-Coronavirus vaccine, an alternative to AstraZeneca, after it caused fatal blood clots.
Reuters quoted the committee as saying in a statement, "A link has been found between the AstraZeneca vaccine and the occurrence of rare blood clots that also appear with low levels of platelets after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine in those under 40 years of age."
The committee added, "242 cases of stroke were discovered after 28.5 million people received a dose of the vaccine."
The risk of a stroke is roughly one in every 100,000 people in their forties, but it rises to one in every 60,000 people in their 30s.
Most strokes occur after the first dose and people who have already had one dose of Oxford AstraZeneca are advised to get the second dose.
