It is now official.
Eric Dupond-Moretti will be an LREM candidate in Hauts-de-France in the next regional elections.
While the rumor swirled for several days, the Minister of Justice decided to confirm it with La Voix du Nord on Friday.
But if he was announced at the top of the list, he would ultimately only be third on the list of the presidential majority.
The most media-oriented of the ministers will therefore finally rub shoulders with universal suffrage by engaging in the battle of the regions, in a territory disputed as much by Xavier Bertrand as by the National Gathering.
As we revealed on Thursday, the Minister of Justice had already hired his former chief of staff, Jean Gaborit, to prepare the campaign and build a team.
According to two polls published this week by BVA and Ipsos, in the event of a candidacy as head of the list, the current boss of the region was slightly ahead of his rival RN Sébastien Chenu in the first round and largely won in the event triangular with the left.
He was followed by the RN in case of quadrangular.
