Former Democratic Party Chairman Hu Zhiwei, who was granted short bail by the High Court to attend the funeral of his deceased father, arrived at Diamond Hill Funeral Home at 8:30 this morning (8th) to attend the funeral and cremation ceremony of his deceased father.

Hu Zhiwei was escorted by several police officers into the Diamond Hill funeral home.

He was wearing a white shirt and black trousers, but he was not handcuffed.

A supporter shouted at the scene: "Go on, Zhiwei!" Hu Zhiwei nodded in response.

After Hu Zhiwei stayed for about 40 minutes, he was escorted into a police car by a number of uniformed and plainclothes police officers at 9 o'clock and left the funeral home.

It is understood that Hu Zhiwei was sent directly to the Lai Chi Kok Reception Center instead of going to the crematorium.

Hu Zhiwei was remanded in custody for the Democratic 35+ primary election case and the July 1 parade last year. His father passed away last month. Hu earlier applied to the Correctional Services Department to go out for funerals, but the department refused on security grounds.

Hu Zhiwei applied to the High Court for bail again, and was approved by a judge of the High Court yesterday (7th) to go out on bail for a short time under certain conditions to attend the funeral of his deceased father.

After Hu Zhiwei stayed for about 40 minutes, he was escorted into a police car by a number of uniformed and plainclothes police officers at 9 o'clock and left the funeral home.

When the police car left, some Democrats and supporters shouted "Hu Zhiwei hold on."

It is understood that Hu Zhiwei was sent directly to the Lai Chi Kok Reception Center instead of going to the crematorium.

Hu Zhiwei’s father set up a spirit at the Diamond Hill Funeral Home last night. About 250 people attended the ceremony, including many pro-democracy people. The establishment legislators Shi Liqian and Tian Beichen also gave flower plaques to mourn. Hu Zhiwei did not show up last night.
