The Southern Raml Police Department in Latakia managed to arrest a network that deals other than the Syrian pound and that promotes and distributes foreign currency and manipulates exchange rates within the city of Latakia.
And the Ministry of the Interior stated in a statement, which SANA received a copy of, that after receiving confirmed information to the Southern Raml Police Department about people exchanging foreign currency and dealing in other than the Syrian pound and manipulating the exchange rate and their reluctance to one of the suspicious houses in Al-Horsh area in Lattakia for being their workplace in the disposal department, the department was able after setting up the necessary ambush Of the aforementioned house raid and the arrest of the owner of the house, the head of the network and two others.
The Ministry indicated that by inspecting the aforemention’s house, an amount of seven million Syrian pounds, three thousand five hundred US dollars, a book of account and a calculator were found inside it, and one of those arrested had found an amount of four million four hundred eighty thousand Syrian pounds and six hundred US dollars, and the other was found in the possession of the other one thousand US dollars and five A euro and nine thousand Lebanese pounds, as they used to exchange money illegally.
The ministry explained that the funds were confiscated and deposited with the Central Bank of Syria, and by interrogating the arrested, they confessed what was attributed to them, in conjunction with other people in hiding, indicating that one of them admitted to disbursing an amount of one thousand four hundred dollars to one of the persons, while the other two admitted to the exchange of two thousand five hundred dollars and two thousand US dollars. Three persons were arrested, who were admitted to the investigation and admitted their allegations.
The ministry indicated that investigations are still ongoing and research is continuing to uncover the rest of the partners, and those arrested will be duly brought to justice through the Criminal Security Branch in Latakia.
