The health situation today is favorable insofar as, on Futuna, since April 1, we have not had a new case and on Wallis since April 26. There is only one hospitalization in Wallis (...) We will therefore move forward in a progressive and cautious manner in a new phase of deconfinement

”, announced on Wallis and Futuna television the 1st Hervé Jonathan, senior administrator (prefect) of the Polynesian archipelago, following a meeting of the crisis unit.

The restriction of individual trips has been ended but a curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. will be implemented.

With the exception of bars and restaurants, all economic activity can resume while public gatherings of up to 10 people, 30 for funerals, are also allowed, the Top Administration said in a statement.

Only 445 in total

In these very Catholic islands, masses can once again be organized only on weekdays with a gauge of 35% of the capacity of the churches.

The return of students to class will take place in two stages, with the final on May 17 and then, on May 25, all levels at 50% of the class.

These measures are applicable until May 30 before a new examination of the health situation.

Since March 6, 434 cases of Covid-19 have been identified in Wallis and only 11 in Futuna. Seven patients died. Thanks to the sending of major reinforcements to the health reserve from Metropolitan France, a vaccination campaign for the entire adult population is underway in the archipelago with limited hospital resources. 51.5% of adults have currently received at least one dose of Moderna vaccine.
