Italy opens its borders to tourists!

From May 16, holidaymakers will be able to enter the country without the obligation to quarantine.

But the mask requirement remains.

Rome - Italy does not want to wait for an EU-wide vaccination certificate.

Tourists are expected to return to Italy from May 16 without the obligation to quarantine.

Draghi: "It is time for you to book a vacation in Italy"

"It is time for you to book a vacation in Italy," said Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi at the G20 summit.

The mask requirement in the open, however, still applies.

Restaurants and bars should be open until 10 p.m.

The so-called green passport of the EU for more freedom of travel will be "fully usable in the second half of June", promised Draghi.

Brussels is working on such a Covid certificate.

Vaccinations, tests and survived infections should be saved in the document.

But not all hurdles have been cleared for the pass.

Italy is already doing its thing.

After all, holiday trips to Spain have been possible again since Easter and Greece also wants to allow tourists to enter from May 15th.

Holidays on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea are also possible again in Germany.

Italy opens borders - tourists need to know that

From May 16, tourists from the EU will be able to enter Italy without a quarantine obligation.

But there is a small catch.

Entry is only possible under certain conditions - a kind of "Green Passport for Italy":

  • With a confirmation of a corona vaccination with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

  • With a confirmation of a resolved corona infection.

  • Negative corona test (not older than 48 hours).

Corona: Italy is loosening up

The Italian government is accelerating the reopening of the country.

Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced easing in Italy in mid-April.

The country is currently on an easing path.

  • Restaurants and bars are also allowed to serve outside at tables in the evening, as long as the number of Corona cases allows.

From June 1st, people should be able to sit inside again in pubs.

  • An exit ban continues to apply from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • A quarantine of five days and a multiple corona test obligation apply to travelers from EU countries until at least May 15.

A national “green vaccination pass” is to be introduced in mid-May.

Corona in Italy - That's the current situation

Italy has been on the list of corona risk areas in Germany since November 8, 2020.

"Italy, especially the northern regions as well as Apulia and Campania, is once again severely affected by COVID-19", reads on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.

Italy plans the official start of the summer season from June 2, 2021. As the Italian

Corriere Della Sera

reports, the curfew is to fall from 10 p.m. in mid-May or at least be extended to 11 p.m.

The opening of swimming pools and wedding parties is therefore also up for debate.

In any case, the number of corona cases has decreased and at least 25 percent of the population has been vaccinated against corona at least once.

It remains to be seen that the numbers will hold up at this level.
