If an electrical device, item of clothing or bicycle breaks, it is difficult to find expert help.

The Repaircafé also helps during Corona.

Germering - From the point of view of the Repaircafé, which is located at the Free Evangelical Community (FeG), many of those affected decide to throw away the device and buy a new one.

Sometimes simple repairs could get it working again.

The initiators of the café say that this will primarily affect economically weaker people who are already suffering more from the effects of the pandemic.

For this reason, they considered whether there was a possibility of help that almost excludes the risk of infection and is compliant with the current legal situation.

FeG pastor Thomas Scheitacker justifies the commitment as follows: "To withdraw when help is most needed makes implausible."

The solution was: repairs are carried out in the home office and with a so-called Click & Collect service.

It works like this: Visitors to the Repaircafé register in advance via the Internet.

You will receive an email confirmation when the item to be repaired is accepted.

Those of the volunteers who are involved in repairs also give notice in advance so that it is clear how many defective items can be accepted and what each individual is willing to do.

After the items have been handed in, the repairmen pick them up and repair them in the home office.

The equipment, which will hopefully be functional again, can then be collected from the repairers, presumably fully repaired.

Other helpers also work with distance and mask on the repair Saturday in the parish hall and carry out minor repairs that need to be done quickly.

These items can then be picked up again on Saturday evening.

The objects are brought and picked up outdoors, so that a possible risk of infection is also minimized here.

"The current procedure requires a significantly higher organizational effort than we are used to from the previous repair shop," explains café manager Gerhard Busch.

Before each day of repairs, he spends around six hours writing e-mails, making phone calls, creating lists and organizing the entire company.

The next repair café is planned for May 29th.
