Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated his country's commitment to dealing with the file of French colonialism and compensation for the occupation crimes committed during this period, indicating that improving relations with France is linked to addressing this file.
The Algerian News Agency quoted Tebboune as saying today in a message on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of Memory which commemorates the martyrs of the massacres committed by the French occupation forces on May 8, 1945, that “the quality of relations with France will not come without taking into account history and dealing with memory files, which cannot in any way be done”. It is waived, regardless of the justifications.
Tebboune pointed out that the memory files workshops with France “are still open”, such as continuing to retrieve the skulls of the Algerian martyrs, the file of the missing, recovering the archives, and compensating the victims of the nuclear explosions in the Algerian Sahara, stressing the need to treat these files with “seriousness and sobriety”.
The French occupation forces committed heinous murders against the Algerian people during the colonial era between 1830 and 1962, including identity suppression, looting, torture, murder and nuclear experiments.
