The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, insisted this Saturday that there will be economic and psychological support to the families of the victims. But many of the injured and relatives of the deceased say they have not received help so far.

The collapse of a section of the Mexico City metro claimed the life of one more person.

The victim was identified as Araceli Linares Jiquez, who had been admitted to the Tláhuac Hospital since last Monday, the day the accident occurred at the Olivos station on Line 12 of the subway.

The 52-year-old woman, who was a worker for the capital's government, did not resist the serious blows she suffered to the head.

With it, the

death toll rose to 26 this Friday

, as confirmed by the authorities.

His son shared a fond farewell to his mother on Facebook.

“Mommy beautiful, there are no words to describe at this moment the emptiness that you leave me but what comforts me is that I was able to say goodbye to you and make you leave without worries, do not worry about my brothers I will take care of seeing for them, as well as I saw for you, ”he wrote.

The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum insisted this Saturday that she seeks to "get to the bottom of the investigation."

His government has not yet given an explanation of what happened that day.

"You have to see the cause and that is why an investigation folder is open," he reiterated.

The City Government, through the Victims' Law fund, will give an emergency support for the families of the deceased persons of 50,000 pesos (about 2,500 dollars), 10,000 have already been granted, and the rest will be delivered as of Monday.

Likewise, the subway insurance will compensate relatives with 650,000 pesos ($ 32,650) to relatives, Sheinbaum added.

To the families of hospitalized people, the Government will give 10,000 support for transportation.

He also assured that a public servant is visiting the survivors at their homes and that they will receive psychological support and that even a group of psychologists from the Faculty of Psychology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) will go to the homes of the victims.

"We are not going to leave you alone,"

the mayor promised.

They demand justice in vigil in honor of the deceased

With flowers and candles, dozens of Mexicans held a vigil in honor of the deceased on Friday next to the scene of the accident.

Some women cried in front of the collapsed elevated train line as they hugged each other.

Shortly thereafter, protesters clashed with riot police on Friday who tried to prevent them from advancing to the scene of the tragedy.

His prayers were also for people struggling between life and death in various hospitals in the city.

According to Sheinbaum, 34 people are still hospitalized, 12 of them in serious condition, 20 delicate and one stable.

Of these, 23 are in public hospitals and 10 in private ones.

Another 53 have already been discharged and one person remains without being located.

Some were offered free funeral services.

The vigil became a protest in solidarity with the victims and a demand that the authorities give support to the victims' families.

"Justice, justice, justice" was the main demand that the protesters demanded.

"I believe that it is necessary that we demand justice, that something be done and that an accident does not remain, which has already happened and then no way," Karen Barrios, a neighbor of the area, told Telemundo News.

"Comprehensive support from families, medical support, psychological support and obviously also financial support" were the main demands, according to Fernanda Medellín, who like others went to show her support for the victims.

But they also asked those responsible for punishment because, they say, the collapse of the subway was an announced tragedy.

"We ask for justice; we come so that the accident that occurred due to lack of maintenance is not forgotten and to remind the authorities that all the subway facilities must be maintained," said Trinidad Castro, a nurse.

Asked on Friday in his usual morning by a Telemundo News reporter, the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured that he has not visited the victims of the accident because he considers

any visit to the accident site or an approach to the injured

"demagogic"

in hospitals.

"It is not my style. It hurts a lot, but this is not going to take pictures. That too, to hell, that style," he said.

Line 12 of the metro, inaugurated in 2012 as the great work of the then mayor and current Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, has been involved in controversy from the beginning.

The train ended up costing much more than was promised and between 2014 and 2015 part of its operations were suspended due to numerous failures.

In addition, neighbors had reported damage to the bridge after the powerful earthquake of September 19, 2017.

The mayor of the capital announced that a Norwegian company will be in charge of carrying out an independent investigation of what happened in the greatest tragedy in the city since the earthquake.
