A cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Michael of Kent, says he is ready to cash in on his influence to facilitate investors' access to Vladimir Putin's entourage, despite the calamitous relations between Moscow and London, according to a published survey this Sunday by The

Sunday Times

and produced with Channel 4.

These two media masqueraded as representatives of a South Korean company investing in gold and seeking to invest in Russia. During a meeting, filmed on a hidden camera, Prince Michael of Kent, 78, offered them his representation services for 10,000 pounds per day (11,500 euros) and said he could record a speech of support from his home in the palace from Kensington to London, also the residence of Prince William, for 200,000 dollars (164,000 euros).

Present, his partner Simon Reading praised the role of "

unofficial ambassador of His Majesty to Russia

" of Prince Michael of Kent and presented him as a "

friend of Russia

", according to the

Sunday Times

.

He assured that his relations with Vladimir Poutine had not been affected by the tensions with Moscow because he passes "

under political turbulence

".

According to the same source, Simon Reading had already taken advantage of a reception at Kensington Palace in 2013, in the presence of the prince, to cash access to the Kremlin.

Prince Michael of Kent was awarded the Order of Friendship in 2009 by then-President Dmitry Medvedev, during a time when Vladimir Putin was prime minister.

Embarrassing revelations

Quoted by the British agency PA, the services of Prince Michael assured that he had not had any contact with Vladimir Putin since a meeting in 2013. They assured that Simon Reading, "

a good friend, wanting to help, did suggestions that Prince Michael would not have wanted and could not have realized

”. The prince is not considered an active member of the royal family and is not remunerated by the Crown. He earns his living through consulting activities.

These revelations are however embarrassing at a time when relations between London and Moscow are at their worst, affected by a series of crises since the poisoning of ex-spy Alexander Litvinenko in 2006 in London to that of Sergei Skripal in 2018, in going through many diplomatic disagreements.
