Rottach-Egern -

Instead of floating gently through the air, a paraglider from Munich landed in a tree on Saturday right after take-off at Wallbergkircherl.

As reported by the Bad Wiessee police, the Rottach-Egern mountain rescue service freed the novice pilot from his predicament.

The man survived the accident without injuries.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m.

Inadequate start check

After an “unsatisfactory start check”, as the police report says, the man from Munich tied himself up with his own leash and flew right into a tree right after the start.

There he got stuck in the branches with his turquoise paraglider.

At a height of five meters he had to hold out and wait for help.

Abseiling a paraglider stranded in a tree has become routine for the mountain rescue service.

Snow conditions make it difficult to use

"But at the moment it is still difficult for us to get up the mountain due to the snow conditions," reports a mountain rescue spokesman.

While it is spring in the valley and the meadows are in bloom, it is still winter on the Wallberg.

The forest roads are deeply snowed, especially in shady areas.

To get to the casualty, two mountain watchmen had to fight their way through with a snow vehicle.

Abseiling the paraglider was no longer a problem on the spot.

"That was very quick," explains the spokesman.

However, the Munich man's paraglider can no longer be saved.

According to the police, the damage is around 1500 euros.
