Left chairwoman Janine Wissler rejects the conditions formulated by Green leader Robert Habeck for a left alliance after the federal election.

She referred in particular to Habeck's comments on NATO and recalled that the Greens had been founded as a peace party.

But NATO is a "war alliance".

Wissler told the newspapers of the Funke media group: "It is remarkable that the chairman of the Greens, who were once founded as a peace party, is calling for a commitment to the NATO war alliance."

You find it difficult to understand why the question of the alleged alliance of values with countries like Erdoğan's Turkey for the Greens is the question of the ability to govern.

Especially since a commitment is synonymous with NATO's goal of spending two percent of the gross domestic product on the military.

"Many billions that should be better spent on social justice, education and climate protection than on tanks and bombs," said Wissler.

Habeck had previously told the newspapers of the Funke media group that the Left Party had to "prove to a special degree that it is capable of governing and that it is ready to take responsibility for this country."

That includes foreign policy responsibility and a commitment to NATO.
