Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on the protection of sovereignty and the constitutional order, stating that "the decree aims to preserve the independence and sovereignty of the country."

The official website of President Lukashenko indicated that the decree provides for the transfer of power to the Security Council in the event of the death of the head of state through an assassination attempt, terrorist attack, external aggression or other acts of violence.

The decree added that all state agencies and officials must act in accordance with the decisions of the Security Council headed by the Prime Minister, during which a state of emergency or martial law is imposed immediately in the country and the Security Council determines the necessary measures to ensure this, and the decisions of the Council are binding on all and are subject to unconditional implementation.

The decree indicated that the Security Council, with the participation of provincial governors, decided to hold elections.

The Belarusian president announced the day before yesterday that his country is ready to hold early presidential elections, provided that the matter is only in parallel with new presidential elections in the United States.
