A new incidence value applies to the opening of primary schools in Bavaria.

We asked rectors in the district and the joint parents' council how they see the easing.

District

- "We look forward to every hour with the local children," says Susanne Eckl, Rector of the Iffeldorf and Habach elementary schools, about the planned relaxation. From Monday, primary schools in Bavaria are to offer alternating lessons again. Up to a seven-day incidence of 165. The value is provided for in the federal emergency brake. Up until now, Bavaria has had a stricter limit: for example, children with an incidence value of over 100 had to be taught at home. Only fourth graders and graduating classes were allowed to attend school. Now, at least in the district's elementary schools, it should be a bit crowded again.

When switching from distance to alternating lessons, Iffeldorf's primary school director sees no difficulties: “It's nothing completely new.” During the pandemic, they have already switched from one type of teaching to the other several times.

The concepts are in place.

Students, parents and teachers know the procedure and know what to expect.

Relaxations as a benefit for the children

Anja Mroß, headmistress of the Altenstadt elementary school, is also happy about every child that is allowed to attend school.

After all, homeschooling cannot do everything that is taught in school.

The announced easing is therefore a great advantage - especially for the children.

The challenge of testing has to be met, of course, but that is more a question of organization.

"Our experience from emergency care is that it works relatively problem-free," says Mroß.

She hopes that it will now work well with more children.

"We will probably divide the children into smaller groups," said Mroß.

Neither in Iffeldorf, Habach nor in Altenstadt have there been any reactions from parents after the announcement of the easing in the press.

Both schools wanted to inform the parents about the new regulations as soon as they received an official letter.

“We have had good experiences with this,” explains Mroß.

Eventually, there could be minor changes.

Parents' council: It is important that children meet again

Sibylle Rollinger, chairwoman of the joint parents' council in the Weilheim Schongau district, also sees the relaxation as positive. Rollinger believes children could get along well with masks and distance. “The important thing is that they meet again.” In recent months, many have realized that school is not just about imparting knowledge. "The children also learn a lot from each other."

The spectrum of how parents feel about the mandatory tests is wide-ranging, explains Rollinger: “With some of them there is definitely still a need for discussion. It is very individual. ”She sees the tests as positive because it makes meetings safer for everyone. “However, it is important that everything is well organized in advance and that you talk to each other.” She would like to “take off her hat” to the schools that have so far mastered every challenge well. It is a murderous effort for everyone. Parents have been under constant stress for around a year. “But it's a pandemic. We all have to get through it together. "

In the case of secondary schools in Bavaria, unlike elementary schools, it should initially remain at the limit value of 100.

Among other things, because the care relevance of elementary school children is different from that of older pupils, said Prime Minister Markus Söder.

For them, however, he held out prospects for the time after the Whitsun vacation.
