The evacuation of Palestinian families has been at the center of daily protests in the neighborhood over the past week, which have escalated into clashes with police.
This is an appeal filed by four families living in the neighborhood against their eviction, and the decision in it will affect additional families that include hundreds of people.
The families have lived in the neighborhood for about 70 years, after fleeing in 1948 from various areas within the Green Line.
The area where the families live in the area of the tomb of Shimon the Righteous was owned by the Sephardic community committee, as well as the Ashkenazi community committee.
In the 1950s, the Jordanian government and the UN built homes on the ground for Palestinian refugees, guaranteeing them ownership in exchange for waiving the refugee certificate and all the rights contained therein.

In 1967, the territory came under Israeli control, and a law was passed allowing Jews to receive the property they had abandoned, while Palestinians could not.
And Nahalat Shimon, which acquired the rights to the land from the committees, began filing eviction lawsuits against the residents.
