After more than two years of demos it is now in black and white: Climate protection is the protection of freedom and has constitutional status. That was decided by the Karlsruhe Constitutional Court last week. "No party or government can ignore this decision," says the Freising Group. In response to the successful climate action, the climate law is now to be stepped up. But here, too, the governing parties would try again “not to mess with the fossil lobby and hold the population off with empty promises”.
That's why Fridays for Future took to the streets all over Germany shortly before the SPD party congress: to show that one was looking carefully. The rally in Freising only took place on a small scale due to Corona. The demands were no less clear: “Whoever wants to govern must take the climate crisis seriously. In order to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees as possible, we have to get out of coal by 2030 and become climate neutral by 2035 at the latest. Not exceeding 1.5 degrees is our best chance to ensure our quality of life here in Freising over the next few decades, ”says Franka Toma from the Freising local group. This requires appropriate greenhouse gas pricing, which is made socially just through a climate bonus."This is the only way to relieve the burden on the lower and middle classes and promote sustainable investments."

Franziska Wirth, also from Fridays for Future Freising, adds: This year, the German Earth Overshoot Day - the earth overload day - already fell on May 5th.

The resources that regenerate over the course of a year have never been used up so early in the year.
From now on we will live the rest of the year at the expense of our livelihoods and the people in the regions of the world that are particularly badly affected by the climate crisis. ”Her conclusion:“ If the SPD really cares about justice, it must finally take more effective measures decide. "
