Colorado Springs police received an emergency call in the morning from a mobile home park, where they found six adults shot dead and a seriously injured man. The latter was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries. The first elements of the investigation revealed that the shootings broke out in a mobile home, where families were gathered to celebrate a birthday.

"The suspect, boyfriend of a woman among the victims, drove to the scene, started shooting at the guests and then killed himself,"

police said in a statement.

"We are still investigating to determine the motive."

None of the children present were injured, police said, and all were taken in by family members.

The victims have not been publicly identified.
