Warngau

- A stable network with clear voice quality: Actually, digital radio only promised improvements for the “authorities and organizations with security tasks” (BOS). But the Tetrafunk did not quite keep its promise: In the district of Miesbach, the digital radio network of the blue light organizations sometimes reveals a modest voice quality. Not only annoying, but dangerous when deployed. Three more radio masts in the northern district should help. One of them is to come to the B 318 in Warngau. A representative of the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has now informed the municipal council about these plans. The panel took note of the plans without discussion. It will deal with a building application at a later date, announced Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber (FWG).

The problem with the language quality occurs in the district in the flatter regions in the north of all places. The fault is not insufficient network coverage, explained Stefan Klein from the LKA in the local council: "The cause is too many cell changes." The handheld radios of the emergency services always switch to the cell that currently offers the best reception. If several cells of similar quality are superimposed in one area, the device changes permanently. As a result, the sound becomes tinny and words from the other party are difficult to understand.

"That is not the best," confirmed district fire chief Anton Riblinger in the local council. The time to solve the problem is running out: “This is necessary because from 2023 the alarm will also be sent via the BOS radio. We can't turn on the siren again on every tree that falls over a street - we need the beeper alarm. ”In the event of an emergency, the fire brigade could do a little better thanks to the large number of emergency services, but the police patrol or ambulance service and ambulance are with theirs The radio set on its own: "You would then have to use the phone - that is not possible," said Riblinger.

Klein emphasized that there had been no idle activity in the past few years. The topic, which not only affects the Miesbach district, is very complex. The lead representative of the LKA reported that an “Alpine concept” had been drawn up. The field strength was not sufficient to ensure the voice quality, which is why additional base stations would be required. There are three search areas in the northern district of Miesbach: near Otterfing, west of Holzkirchen and near Warngau.

The planners had refrained from using an existing cell phone mast at a barn near Schmidham. A new building would have been necessary there too, because the Vodafone mast could not have been used. On top of that, the location would be less suitable for the supply destination, which is why a location further west on the B 318 is favored: between Oberwarngau and Lochham, behind a forest when viewed from the road.

The new mast is expected to be 45 meters high at this point, plus a three-meter-long extension tube. There is space for two sector antennas on two directional radio platforms with directional radio mirrors. The radiation from the BOS radio, said Klein, only played a subordinate role overall. Because the output power increases over the number of users - and in contrast to mobile radio, the BOS digital radio has only a few of them, and not continuously, but only during operations or exercises. “Otherwise it's just a carrier signal.” Even with radio traffic, only voice is transmitted, so no large amounts of data.

“It's not a beauty, but neither is a power pole,” commented councilor Max Bauer (FWG). He asked whether the mast could then also be used for mobile communications, for example for the 5G expansion. Klein replied that this depends on whether the municipality allows it, whether the property owner is willing to do so and whether the network operator even considers the location. “But the Free State is not opposed to this.” The mast would be statically suitable.
