Parents in Petershausen have to be prepared for higher daycare fees.

As of September, with the start of the new childcare year, the contributions for crèche, kindergarten, after-school care and lunchtime childcare will increase.

Petershausen - Many families in the village are affected by the increase, because around 300 girls and boys are currently attending a kindergarten, 76 children are cared for in one of the crèches, 77 school children go to after-school care, 72 to midday care. How much more money parents will have to spend on childcare in the future will vary from institution to institution. "That depends on the provider, the booking times and the cost structure," writes Mayor Marcel Fath (FW) in a press release. On average, the increase will be 60 euros per month and child. However, the burden on parents is alleviated by the state subsidy for parents' contributions of 100 euros per month, emphasizes Fath."As a result, for example, parents in the communal kindergarten today only pay 70 euros a month with a daily care time of nine to ten hours." In the future, this will add around 60 euros.

The trigger for the increase in fees is the introduction of the so-called large room allowance for daycare workers in all facilities in Petershausen.

This subsidy towards the salary grants the nannies and educators "a fair compensation for the higher cost of living here in the Munich metropolitan area", emphasizes the town hall chief.

But for the childcare providers, this means higher personnel costs of up to 270 euros per employee per month.

For the employees of the community, the local council had already decided on the large-scale allowance in the form of a "Petershausen allowance" in October 2019 with effect from 2020.

"Now the childcare providers in the community area have to follow suit," says Fath.

In two meetings of the childcare working group, the daycare providers discussed the financing of the large-scale allowance intensively, reports Fath. It was agreed that the community, which already pays more than 2.3 million euros for childcare out of its own pocket, cannot also compensate for the large-scale allowance of the porters. “That is why the childcare working group has mutually agreed in favor of financing through higher parental contributions,” says Fath. “In the competition for qualified specialists and to ensure high quality childcare places in our community in the long term, this step is indispensable.” Against this background, the adjustment is “justified and viable for most families”. Where hardship arises for parents, the mayor refers to advice and subsidy opportunities.
