Pope Francis on Sunday expressed concern over recent violence in Colombia that has left dozens dead and injured.

“I want to express my concern about the tensions and violent clashes in #Colombia, which have caused deaths and injuries.

Dear Colombians, let us pray for your country!

The wave of deadly protests in Colombia began after the government announced on April 28 an already withdrawn tax reform.

Several human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have denounced alleged abuses by the Colombian security forces and claim that the death toll is much higher than the official record.
