Defendant Mo Liyan (22 years old, student), he admitted that on November 2, 2019, in a unit of Guanjing Building, Canal Road West, Wan Chai, he was in possession of 59 petrol bombs, 79 glass bottles with white waste cotton, 50 glass bottles, 4.6 liters of diesel fuel, 1 liter of liquid containing isopropanol, 4.9 liters of liquid containing gasoline, and white waste cotton, cloth strips and towels, etc., are intended to destroy or damage the property of others without reasonable excuse.

The case alleged that the police started monitoring outside the unit in the early morning of the same day and took action only at 3 pm. At that time, there was a strong smell of gasoline outside the unit. The police officer identified himself outside the unit but there was no response from the unit. The police broke into the unit and saw inside the unit. Five people were escaping from the terrace to the unit downstairs and asked the foreign resident to let them stay, but the foreign resident refused.

The police found the defendant in this case in a restaurant on the second floor of the building after the period, with residues of combustion-supporting agent on his body.

The defense lawyer pleaded that the defendant was in the final year of studying the Bachelor of Public Administration and Political Science at the time of his arrest. He had pleaded guilty in October last year and had been remanded for one and a half years. During the remand, the defendant had two grandparents. After his death, he was unable to attend their funeral. The lawyer submitted another 10 letters of plea, stating that the defendant cared about the society, was willing to help others, and committed crimes on impulse.

When sentencing, the judge stated that a large number of petrol bombs were stored in commercial and residential buildings, which is prone to danger. The case involved 5 people committing crimes. After referring to similar cases, the defendant was sentenced to 38 months in prison.

The trial of the other three defendants in the same case will start this Friday (14th).
