Olivia and Liam were the most popular names for babies and boys in the United States in 2020, according to the annual list of the most popular names for babies published by the Social Security Administration (SSA). this Friday.
In 2020, the three male and female names did not change for the second year in a row.
Olivia, Emma, and Ava were the most popular names for girls, and Liam, Noah, and Oliver for boys.
Henry joined the list of 10 most popular names at No. 9 for the first time in more than a century.
According to SSA, the name has grown in popularity and last appeared on the SSA list in 1910.
The SSA also revealed that the five fastest growing names in popularity in 2020, a reflection of popular culture in naming trends.
Zyair was the fastest growing name for boys and Avayah for girls.
The list comes on the heels of the US reporting a dramatic decline in the national birth rate.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released data that revealed that the country's birth rate fell more than 6% in the last quarter of 2020, a significant decline with compared to the same period in 2019.

The SSA has been publishing the most popular names in the country since 1997, with lists dating back to 1880. To compile the annual list, the agency extracts the names of applications received to process Social Security cards.

According to the SSA, for the past 100 years Michael has been the most popular male baby name, winning the number one spot 22 times.
During those same years, Mary has been ranked 35 times as the most popular female name.
