Every year the Gesellschaft der Deutschen Sprache determines the most popular baby names.
Last year it was Noah and Emma - but which will it be this time?
Wiesbaden– What is the perfect name for the next generation?
For many parents-to-be, this question is a major headache.
After all, it is an important decision that shapes a child's entire life.
No wonder that many parents play it safe and like to look left and right to see which names are currently in vogue.
In 2019, parents still relied on classics like Noah and Emma when they came up with names for their babies, but which names were the most popular last year?
The most popular baby names: Emilia and Noah at number 1
At first glance, there are only few changes compared to the evaluation from 2019. Noah can still look forward to first place among the boys.
But while the girl's name winner Emma from last year only stays in third place, parents-to-be now have a new name that could be suitable for their daughter: The German-speaking society names Emilia as the new number one.
The other top places for the boys are Leon and Paul and Hanna and Emma for the girls.
Especially with Matteo, who was able to make up ten places in fourth place, the list has a tangible surprise to offer, which might make it easier for parents-to-be to find a name.
