Beer garden opening: the golden thread of patience in gastronomy

Beer gardens are allowed to reopen in the Munich district from Wednesday.

Provided that the weather cooperates.

District - Eat pretzels with ease and enjoy freshly tapped beer.

This is theoretically possible again from Wednesday.

But in practice it will probably take a few days before Bavarian beer gardens fill with life again.

Both the weather and the logistics could thwart the restaurateurs' bill.

"We are of course very much looking forward to the opening, but everything happens a bit suddenly," explains Corinna Kittl from the Garching-based Augustiner.

The organizational effort is enormous, you first have to clean and plan everything: "The suppliers have to supply all beer gardens from 0 to 1000, the staff has to be activated and the corona rules have to be understood and implemented."

The rules were initially unclear: Many restaurateurs assumed a possible opening on Tuesday (see box).

And about the fact that every guest needs a test.

The fact is: people from one household do not need a test, as soon as someone from another household is there, everyone needs a test.

Landlady: "None of that was clearly communicated"

"None of this was clearly communicated," says Julia Krätz, managing director of the forest industry in Pullach. She would not have received the final approval for an opening on Wednesday until Sunday evening. Corinna Kittl from Garching also says: “Basically there was just a bit of a mess.” Maria Pinzger, press spokeswoman for the Kugler Alm in Oberhaching, on the other hand, thinks that the conditions were clearly formulated. "When the weather in the beer garden, we will open again from Thursday, it just depends on the weather."

Anton Seidl, owner and operator of the Gasthof zur Mühle in Ismaning, is very happy about the bad weather forecast: "This is how you can start slowly" and adjust to the new situation and it is not jam-packed right away.

You don't know exactly how all of this will work.

“The question is, what kind of slips of paper do people arrive with?” And how to check the vaccination records, for example - he hopes for personal responsibility.

Opening confusion

When are outdoor restaurants and cultural centers allowed to open?

Different statements about the opening start caused confusion in the past few days.

First Prime Minister Markus Söder spoke from Monday.

Then the five-day-under-100 incidence came into play.

Now it is only possible on Wednesday at the earliest.

Because the prerequisite is not only 5 days under 100, but also two days of implementation preparation, on the eighth day it is allowed to open.

So in the district that's Wednesday.

But only after the district administration authority's application to the Ministry of Health has gone through.

A jungle of authorities.

Some restaurateurs actually wanted to open on Tuesday, a beer garden even on Monday - many were surprised that this was not allowed.

One host had to cancel all of his reservations.

Cinemas should open from Wednesday.

But Stefan Stevanov, director of the Lohhofer Capitol cinema, doesn't even open the door.

“An economical operation is not possible,” he says.

With all the regulations, the cinema could only be used to the extent that it ultimately pays more.

He accuses politics of “acting unrealistic”.

Landlord David Gerstein doesn't have that much patience

David Gerstein, managing director of Feringas Restaurant on Feringasee, does not have so much patience.

“We'll unlock with the next rays of sunlight.” In the event of any misunderstandings, he would simply find out about the rules on a daily basis and then implement them.

He too hopes that people will then bring the correct evidence with them.

"We are just in good spirits and see what comes next." For the future, he is thinking about setting up a test facility on site.

"But at the beginning we will be busy enough."

“WaWi”: There is a test station diagonally across the street

Julia Krätz is also confident.

“We open on Wednesday, regardless of the weather!” When it rains, the guests can at least sit under the umbrellas.

There is a test station diagonally across from the forest management area - of course that helps to make more spontaneous visits possible.

Regardless of whether the beer garden operator is cautious or optimistic about the opening.

First of all, they need good weather.
