Seriously injured in the neck, a fortnight ago during a National match (3rd division) between the Stade Niçois and Narbonne, the second line of Nice James Lasis had been operated on urgently for a cervical sprain, then a second time to reduce edema in the brain.
Hospitalized since April 30 in intensive care at the Pasteur hospital in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), the 25-year-old English player is making “slow progress” according to his entourage.
"He can always bring a smile to our faces with a wink"
Matt Lasis, brother of James Lasis
His brother Matt, also a rugby player at Hinckley RFC, is at his bedside and has posted the news on
.
“It has been a difficult two weeks.
But, looking back, James is in a much better shape than 2 weeks ago, just like mum, dad and me.
Progress turns out, as the doctor said, slow, but the 'Big Man' is still smiling (…) It must be incredibly scary, frustrating for him to stand there, unable to move or speak.
His words are hard to understand, trust me.
But we are working on it.
He can always bring a smile to our faces with a wink, and even a nod to some music ”.
Stade Niçois has opened an email address (supporterjames@gmail.com) to collect support messages.
A kitty has also been set up to help his family.
