California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday proposed a second round of statewide stimulus checks for $ 600 to accelerate recovery from the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"That budget surplus is returning to the most vulnerable Californians who need help the most

In addition to the $ 600 stimulus checks for eligible Californians, the governor, who faces a recall election in November, proposed that families with children would receive an additional $ 500.

Newsom also focused on the state's housing problem.

The president proposed doubling rental assistance by $ 5 billion with the idea that anyone who is not behind can pay their rent, and up to 2 billion in direct payments to pay past due utility bills.

However, thanks to the breakthrough in the vaccination campaign, the state is set to reopen much of its economy on June 15.

This round of state stimulus checks would be the second proposed by the governor.

In February, the president signed legislation to provide 5.7 million low-income Californians with 2.3 billion in checks.

The money even went to those making $ 30,000 a year or less and receiving the state's Earned Income Tax Credit.
