On Friday, the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, urged through Facebook to "do not disturb" those who use the drugs hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin to treat COVID-19.

None of these drugs have been scientifically proven to help fight the virus.

However, Bolsonaro has supported its use throughout the pandemic.

"You are free to choose, with your doctor, the best way to treat yourself," wrote the president.

Choose and please do not upset those who have chosen a different course from yours.

This post was in response to an ongoing Senate investigation into how Bolsonaro has handled the pandemic.

Paraguay

The Chinese company Sinovac Biotech donated 50,000 doses of its vaccine against covid-19 to the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) to support the upcoming competitions, as announced by Alejandro Domínguez, president of Conmebol.

Immunization will be targeted at the top professional soccer teams in top-notch men's and women's tournaments.

The Paraguayan Football Association was the first to vaccinate players, referees, technicians and assistants, according to the news agency of the Government of Paraguay.

The members of the Sportivo Luqueño Club were the first to receive the doses, followed by Cerro Porteño and Guaraní.

Domínguez said on his Twitter account that the vaccinations will allow the Copa América, which will be played between June 13 and July 10 in Argentina and Colombia, to develop more safely.

Ecuador

On Sunday, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health reported that the country had exceeded 400,000 confirmed cases of covid-19.

Peru

Between February and April of this year, Peruvian trips to the United States have increased almost sevenfold, according to CNN en Español's Jimena De La Quintana.

This is largely due to the slow rate of vaccination in Peru, which is why some choose to seek a vaccine abroad.
