The construction project “Parish kindergarten Noah's Ark” threatened to be shipwrecked several times.

After two unsuccessful attempts, it should finally work.

Langenbach

- Getting Noah's Ark, Langenbach's parish kindergarten, on track was not easy.

The church initially wanted to renovate the building, which was suffering from contaminated sites.

Then, when that turned out to be too costly in comparison, the plans were completely thrown overboard and a new building was considered.

There was talk of around two million euros.

A little later, however, the plans were back on hold.

The ordinariate hesitated.

That was in 2018. However, the whole time the municipality stood by its promise to contribute up to two thirds of the costs.

A promising new beginning is now planned.

However, the calculation of two million euros should no longer be tenable: it is more likely to be around three million.

Mayor Susanne Hoyer did not want to name a sum at the latest meeting of the municipal council. The question of funding was something for the non-public part, she said. In addition, it also depends on what funding can be expected. But the town hall chief renewed her promise "not to let the ark sink". If all goes well, the application can be submitted in June and construction work can begin in September. According to Hoyer, “the big goal” is to be able to put the new parish kindergarten into operation in the spring of 2023. However, "nothing more should happen there," she restricted with a view to possible delays. A prerequisite for a quick start is also a "quick commitment from the government".In spite of all the imponderables, Hoyer expressed the hope “that one will come a lot closer to the goal today” when the architecture firm Füllemann presented it again.

The bridge and shaft should give the right ark look

Achim Füllemann was mainly referring to a presentation from last autumn, according to which the existing building could initially be retained and remain in operation until the replacement building is completed. A container solution for the two-group parish kindergarten, as it was once considered in the past, is therefore off the table. According to Füllemann, the “new ark”, a two-story building, is being built in the garden, more precisely in an area currently designated as a playground. The wooden construction actually gives the impression of an ark, which is reinforced by a small access bridge. An allusion to the topics of water and waves, which, according to Füllemann, would also be reflected on the facade of the new ark. According to a sketch, the design allows an ark to be reproduced.

As soon as the new building is ready, the old one can be demolished, said Füllemann, explaining the procedure.

The construction process is a bit tricky as a result.

It is important to coordinate the construction site and the simultaneous kindergarten operation as well as possible.

A debate did not take place afterwards.

Langenbach's municipal councils approved the building application in the form presented and without exception.
