A woman from Holzkirchen became the victim of an Internet acquaintance.

Holzkirchen

- According to the police, the 29-year-old made the acquaintance of an alleged American doctor on Facebook at the end of April and beginning of May who said he was working in Syria. She trusted him. After a short time, the man asked her to keep a parcel of value that he would send her. Because this was allegedly intercepted at customs in Italy, she should transfer 2200 euros to an account. The 29-year-old did that too. After she was asked to transfer a sum of 10,700 euros after allegedly new problems at customs, she became suspicious. She did not transfer the money and reported the incident to the police. There she filed a complaint against the "doctor".

The police are asking for increased caution: Scammers are looking for potential victims in online dating sites or in social networks.

Once contact has been established, they would be overwhelmed with expressions of love and attention - the sole aim of which is to pull the money out of their pockets.

It affects both women and men.

The police advise not to respond to requests from Internet acquaintances and not to transfer money under any circumstances.

"Do not cash any checks or forward letters and parcels and do not keep them," warns the police.

Payments already made should be canceled immediately.
