A working group on "the excommunication of the Mafiosi" will join the ranks of the Roman Curia, the "government" of the Church, the Vatican announced on Monday, May 10, the day after the unprecedented beatification of an anti-Mafia magistrate in Sicily.

The working group, under the aegis of the dicastery (Vatican ministry) for “integral human development”, is made up of great Italian names in the anti-Mafia struggle, including Rosa Bindi, former president of the Italian Democratic Party, Father Luigi Ciotti, founder of the Libera association, and anti-mafia judge Giuseppe Pignatone, who in October 2019 became president of the Vatican tribunal.
