Colorado Springs Police received a call shortly after midnight from a mobile home park, where they discovered six adults shot dead and a seriously injured man.

The latter was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The first elements of the investigation revealed that the shootings broke out in one of the mobile homes, where families were gathered to celebrate a birthday. "

The suspect, boyfriend of a woman among the victims, drove to the scene, started shooting at the guests and then killed himself,

" police said in a statement. “

We are still investigating to determine the motive.

"

The guests were from the same extended family, told the Denver Post daily Freddy Marquez, who left the birthday party with his wife and children before the shooting. The rally was aimed at celebrating the birthdays of Freddy Marquez's wife and her brother, he added. Among the victims are the mother of his wife as well as two of his brothers and three members of the extended family, said Freddy Marquez. None of the children present were injured, police said, and all were taken in by family members. The victims have not been publicly identified.

Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers has condemned a "

senseless act of violence

" while city police chief Vince Niski said the police who attended the scene were "

all deeply upset

." A resident of the mobile home park told The Denver Post that there was so much shooting that she initially thought she was awakened by a thunderstorm.

The United States has seen a series of gun attacks in recent weeks: at a FedEx delivery service site in Indianapolis, at an office building in California, at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, and at several massage parlors in Atlanta, Georgia.

US President Joe Biden last month called gun violence in the United States an "

epidemic

" and "

international disgrace

".

More than 43,000 gun deaths were recorded in the country last year, including suicides, according to figures from Gun Violence Archive, a research association on gun violence.
