Uzbekistan announced today its refusal to deploy US military bases on its soil.
Commenting on American press reports about the possible deployment of American bases in Uzbekistan, the press office of the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan said today: “The country's defense doctrine does not include the deployment of foreign military bases on its territory,” noting that the basic documents in the field of defense contain clear and accurate answers to these questions, as "Foreign military bases and installations may not be deployed on the country's territory."
He pointed out that this principle was mentioned in the national constitution and in the concept of foreign policy of the Uzbek Republic, stressing that the defense policy of Uzbekistan is based on the principle of non-participation in peacekeeping operations and military conflicts abroad.
The American "Wall Street Journal" reported on the possibility of deploying US military bases in Uzbekistan or Tajikistan.
