On May 15, 2011, unexpectedly, the call for an online demonstration by Democracia Real Ya triumphed and led to a camping trip at Puerta del Sol, in the center of Madrid.
The square thus became an icon of an associative and political movement that catalyzed much of the social discontent over the economic crisis and contributed to change the Spanish political landscape.
Now, on the eve of its 10th anniversary, the effects of that protest still reverberate.
